Preparing for a Dental Implant Surgery

Are you scheduled for a dental implant surgery soon? If it’s your first time, the procedure can be a little scary, and you may have confusion on how exactly you have to prepare for it. Here are some tips that you must keep in mind before and after receiving your dental implants.

Before:
  • Rinse the mouth with anti-bacterial mouthwash, to avoid complications due to infection.
  • Your last meal should depend on the type of surgery that you will be having. In general you can take a good breakfast on the day of the operation itself, however if the procedure requires you to receive I.V sedation, you will have to take your last meal the night before the surgery.
  •  It is also highly advised that you ask someone to drive you from and back to your surgery especially if any sedation is to be used on you. The sedatives will most likely make you feel groggy and disorientated making you unfit to drive.
After
  • Small bruises, swelling, and pain is to be expected after the surgery, but this is nothing a painkiller can’t handle.
  • Follow-up check-ups after the procedure will be necessary to monitor your implants.
  • Dental implants must be cared for as if they are real and natural teeth
